Country House stands in an elevated position within a parkland setting and
is reached by a gravel road. Adjoining the owners' house (at the kitchen on
the ground floor), it stands almost detached, and has shared use of 18acres
of grounds with fenced woods, one of which has a fishpond. Children will
delight in the self-contained play area and fun golf course, which is
normally available for guests' use, and adults can enjoy a relaxing game in
the billiards room on the first floor, where there is a 10ft snooker table.
Furnished and equipped to a high standard, the house makes a good base for
touring the whole of the north of England, and an easy day trip will reach
any of five National Parks or the east or west coasts. Several market towns
lie close by, including ancient Richmond with its magnificent castle perched
above the River Swale, and beautiful York, with a host of attractions, is
home to the famous Minster and Jorvik Viking Museum. North Yorkshire has
many other interesting places to visit besides - the National Trust
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal make for good days out, and other
treasures to be discovered include Castle Howard and Bowes Museum. The
Forbidden Corner offers a wonderful day out for children, with hidden
surprises at every turn, whilst the Yorkshire countryside is world-famous as
the setting for stories by James Herriot and television series Heartbeat and
Emmerdale (in which High Parks House has featured). Quiet country lanes are
perfect for cycling, whilst walkers can enjoy fine footpaths by tranquil
rivers or high fells. A bewildering choice of places to eat punctuate the
countryside, and there is shopping and a wide range of sporting facilities
